Nancy Williams

“Coach” – Women’s Sports Director

Nancy Williams has been a pioneer for the sport of field hockey, as well as all women’s sports, having been with the Shore Regional program since its inception.  In 44 years at the helm of the field hockey program, “Coach” finished with a nation leading record of 839-66-57 and garnered 43 consecutive division championships, 21 overall shore conference titles (16 straight), 24 state sectional championships and 13 overall state championships. She also coached 17 All Americans. Coach Williams has been inducted into various Halls of Fame including the Shore Regional Hall of Fame, Jersey Shore Hall of Fame, New Jersey State Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007. Coach Williams has an impeccable record on the field, however if you ask her, her biggest accomplishments happen off the field…

"When people look at the program, they see what the kids have done on the field. When I look at the program, I see how they’ve done off the field," said Williams. "They have a huge impact on people’s lives. They've become lawyers and teachers. Most of them are parents now and they’ve made such an impact. They are great parents. To me, that’s been the greatest pleasure I've had, watching them become the kind of people they have. It’s been rewarding.

After her recent retirement, she explains a bit of her coaching philosophies…

"I will miss watching the kids grow from 9th to 12th grade," Williams said. "I’ll miss the process of coaching. Games are games. Practices are practices. The process of coaching, getting a team together and putting together a puzzle of those players. Them all coming together for a common goal is what I’ll miss the most."
